Wildway Crew Stories: Jessica Hirn (Motocross)
Our Wildway Crew highlights ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Within each of us lies the potential to live life to the fullest. We have the ability to choose our own destiny, live without fear or limits, challenge ourselves and grow, do and be whatever makes us happy. We have the ability to be free. It's how you live a Wildway of life and there are people all around us inspiring others with their actions. We want to celebrate that by highlighting and honoring those who #LiveWild.
Meet this week's featured Wildway Crew member:
Jessica's Wildway of Life = My Wildway of Life is racing motocross.
Eating healthy and training hard everyday, to keep up with the boys, is what motivates me to better myself on and off of the bike.
Jessica's Outlook = I always try to live everyday like it is my last day, because you never know what tomorrow brings.
Meet Jessica. Jessica is a girl that can hang with the boys. Her story shows us that sometimes life leads us down a path that may be unexpected and scary, but can lead to a life, and a love, you never even imagined possible.
Here is Jessica's story in her own words:
"It all began when I asked my dad if he would build me a Harley Davidson chopper. (He has built and worked on Harley Davidson motorcycles since he was about 18 years old). I had just graduated from college and could afford to pay him to build me a bike, so I finally asked. He said "Yes, but you need to learn how to ride a dirt bike first".
I was thrilled when he said he would start collecting motorcycle parts. Not knowing what to look for in a motorcycle, and being that my dad lived in Virginia, I went out and found a junky dirt bike off of craigslist. Over the next few months, I would just ride it around and learn how to operate the controls.
It was about 8 months after I got my dirt bike, when I met another girl that rode dirt bikes as well. She encouraged me to do a hare-scramble race with the local off-road series called T.O.R.C.S. I finally said I would do just one race so she would leave me alone about it.
After that one race, I was hooked and I knew that racing motocross was what I wanted to do. I have since gone through many different bikes and learned a lot more about racing, riding, wrenching, training, and proper nutrition."
I'm so fascinated by fierce women who dominate sports that are made up of predominately men. Jessica isn't intimidated at all, she just uses that as motivation to propel her even further in motocross.
Risks are worth taking.
Live Wild. Ride Wild.
