Wildway Crew Stories: Jess Martin (Fitness)

Our Wildway Crew highlights ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Within each of us lies the potential to live life to the fullest. We have the ability to choose our own destiny, live without fear or limits, challenge ourselves and grow, do and be whatever makes us happy. We have the ability to be free. It's how you live a Wildway of life and there are people all around us inspiring others with their actions. We want to celebrate that by highlighting and honoring those who #LiveWild.

Meet this week's featured Wildway Crew member:

Wildway of Choice = Banana Nut Grain-free Granola

Meet Jess. Enthusiast for life and all it has to offer. Jess ditched his tech career a few years ago and now spends his days pursuing happiness. Starting his very own fitness company, Jess is dedicated to enjoying life and helping others do that too. Read his story and be inspired to seek the happiness in your own life.

Here is Ryan's story in his own words:

"My Name is Jess Martin and I am a passionate life addict. That’s my Wildway of Life—pursuing a passion-filled life and helping others find that life too!

It all started in 2012 when I was promoted to Vice President of Sales for an IBM partner selling Business Process Management and Process Efficiency Software.  Yes, to answer your question, it WAS as sexy as it sounds.  *insert eyeroll* The tech rockstar life is hard to quit, but in 2013 I decided that I couldn’t go through life without passion.  I cast off those golden handcuffs in search of a more meaningful life.  My passions were music and wellness.  I decided that I wasn’t going to break into the music industry in my mid thirties so I went with the latter and started Stronghorn fitness.  I was providing free fitness on Saturday and that morphed into a much larger company of corporate wellness, personal and remote caching and fitness center management.

I realized one day that I was stressed out and unhappy more days than not… that struck me hard when I caught myself NOT wanting to be social or go outside on Sunday because all I could think about was my 9am Monday morning meeting.  I was literally giving up entire days of what could be fun and enjoyable to worry about something that hasn’t happened yet.  This didn’t seem right. I felt like there had to be a better way of life.

I left software all together and started offering free Saturday workouts to friends. I created a brand around life enjoyment and “keeping it sweaty”—Stronghorn Fitness.

Stronghorn has grown into a beautiful sweaty thing!  We offer classes and wellness to people all over Austin and the country and I am in the process of rebranding another wellness company I started and will kick off 2019 with a whole new venture of joy and wellness!

Now, I live my life the way that makes each day enjoyable.  I am thankful each day, I help others to create joy in their life as well as mine. I am happier more days than not, and that is the goal.  Quality of life, not quantity! It’s not counting the years you get, if making the years you get count!"
